No Support For CMYK JPGs in Internet Explorer

I came across something today that I’ve never encountered before. Whilst updating one of our company sites, I added some new product shots given to us by one of our suppliers on a cd.

After building the site and regularly checking the result in Firefox/Opera, I decided to have a final check with IE 6-8. To my surprise, some of the product images were not displaying at all!

If you search the web, this is a common problem (usually incorrect file paths, uppercase/lowercase issues on a linux server etc) but I’d already checked the usual supects. I was completely baffled!

Poor Grammar/Spelling

One of the few things that is guaranteed to put me off a website is poor spelling and grammar.

Your website is often the first impression that a potential customer has of your business and it is crucial to appear professional.  Personally, I don’t trust a business that doesn’t bother to check their site’s copy.  What else have they overlooked? Continue reading »

Using Javascript For Your Site's Navigation

There are many reasons why you shouldn’t use Javascript by itself for your site’s navigation.

Firstly, if your customers don’t have javascript enabled in their browsers, they can’t use your site!

Overuse Of Flash (Especially Flash Intros)

For those of you that don’t know what Flash is (you’re in a minority), I shall try and describe to you in laymans terms.

If you’ve ever seen a website that has lots of super-cool animation, almost as if you’re watching a movie, has scenes play out in front of you every time you click a button or, as you load the website, you get a little bar that slowly fills up and says ‘loading’, you’ve witnessed Flash.
